Even if you are not currently thinking about reporting to the police, in order to preserve evidence that could later be used in an investigation the following steps should be taken:
- Save any clothing that you were wearing at the time of the assault. Leave unwashed and if possible place in a paper bag
- Do not disturb anything in the area where the assault occurred
- We understand that you may want to wash, however if you are thinking about having an examination we suggest that you do not shower, wash or bath, douche or brush your teeth.
We know it may be difficult to discuss what has happened and you may just want to try and forget about it however it is important that you are supported and have access to available services. Horizon West Midlands crisis workers are available 24 / 7 through our freephone number – if you want to access support or are unsure of what to do, call us on 0808 168 5698.
